Climate Action Now

The climate is changing in front of us. Open any newspaper, and this is evident in headline after headline.

Where our team lives, a haze of wildfire smoke has lingered in the air for months now. We are grateful it isn’t worse and wary as the dry, windy fall season approaches. Weekly, we check in on friends and family across the world who have experienced stronger hurricanes, flooded subways, flash floods that rip through small towns, or dangerous heat waves.

This lived experience is backed by the expert findings of the world’s scientists, who have rigorously studied our planet’s systems and come to the conclusion that “it is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land. Widespread and rapid changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and biosphere have occurred” (IPCC AR6). These changes will continue absent our rapidly acting on climate solutions today.

Climate change is scary to witness, but because we know the cause of global warming, we can act. It is from this knowledge of climate solutions – and desire to empower others to implement solutions – that we founded Teams for a Better Planet.

I have worked on climate change for more than a decade. My mom recently found the letter I wrote in high school to the President insisting that we reduce carbon emissions and transition to a clean energy economy. I wish he had listened then! Since then, I have worked for California Governor Jerry Brown, NextGen Climate, and with countless partner organizations to push for ambitious climate policy at the state, Federal and global levels.

The best part of that work came through forging cross-sector partnerships that drove forward climate solutions and their implementation. The projects that helped people who were concerned about the climate, but who had deep experience in their sectors, involved in deploying climate solutions.

What kind of solutions can you deploy?

There are SO many ways to act!

We know that by 2050, we must transform our economy and society by limiting cumulative CO2 and methane emissions to at least net zero emissions.

Executing on this will be the challenge of our generation and it is our firm belief that everyone can play an active role in bringing about this brighter future. Every voice and skillset is needed.

In our sessions we explore ways to act personally and professionally on climate change. Not just to reduce emissions, but to build social and physical resilience to the changes to the earth’s climate that are already happening.
